Our Story

Our love for brewing great beer doesn’t stop at what’s been done before. Beer has always had an essential role in our culture at the center of celebrations, connections and even relaxation. After retiring from brewing nationally renowned craft beers, I was eager for a new challenge. That’s why we founded CERIA Brewing Company — to create great-tasting non-alcoholic brews,so that no matter why you choose not to drink alcohol, you can still enjoy a great tasting brew. We’ve crafted these brews with you in mind.

Knock, knock

Who’s there?

Orange who?

Orange you glad CERIA beers have less alcohol than a ripe banana?

At CERIA Brewing Company we are proud to create great tasting, alcohol free craft beers. Beers that don’t get you buzzed or drunk. Beers that don’t result in a hangover the next morning. Beers without the added calories from alcohol!

But what are non-alcoholic beers and are they really non-alcoholic?

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) is an agency of the United States Department of the Treasury, which regulates and collects taxes on trade and imports of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms within the United States. According to the TTB, any malt beverage containing less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) is considered non-alcoholic and is called a “non-alcoholic malt beverage” or a “near beer”1. Therefore, non-alcoholic beers sold in the U.S. must not contain 0.5% ABV or more.  In other words, a 12 ounce can of non-alcoholic beer may only contain up to 0.06 ounces of alcohol. This doesn’t sound like a lot of alcohol, and it really isn’t. In fact, a lot of foods we eat every day contain trace amounts of alcohol.

Alcohol in my Food?

Alcohol is present in foods whenever the food’s natural or added yeasts convert sugars into ethanol (alcohol) and carbon dioxide via natural fermentation. Some examples of foods with traces of alcohol include breads, which can contain up to 1.28% ABV and ripe fruits, which can contain up to 0.4% ABV; as well as vinegars, fruit juices, yoghurts, mustards and ethanol-based extracts2. Soy sauce is a fermented product and contains up to 2% ABV3. Even though these amounts of alcohol are detectable, they are not enough for one to become impaired, and while more people are beginning to shy away from alcohol in their beer, they could actually be exposed to small amounts of alcohol while eating or drinking everyday foods and beverages.

CERIA’s Beers are 0.0% ABV

While many people enjoy the great taste of alcoholic or non-alcoholic craft beers, some consumers prefer absolutely ZERO alcohol in their beer. And for those folks, CERIA is the answer. The TTB considers beers containing no alcohol “alcohol free”. CERIA’s beers contain 0.0% alcohol – less than a ripe banana – without sacrificing the great taste of a craft beer.  So next time you want to sit back and enjoy a cold one, without a trace of alcohol and without the added calories, pop open a Grainwave alcohol-free Belgian-style White Ale or an Indiewave alcohol-free IPA! Cheers!

CERIA Brewing Doubles its Beer Distribution Network in 12 Months

CERIA BREWING DOUBLES ITS NA BEER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK IN 12 MONTHS Growth of Non-Alcohol Craft Beer Credited to Increased Emphasis on Health and Wellness ARVADA, Colorado (May 25, 2021) – CERIA Brewing Company, makers of Grainwave Belgian White and Indiewave IPA non-alcohol craft beers, reports its distribution network has doubled in the past 12 months.

The two CERIA styles, created by legendary Colorado brewmaster Keith Villa, Ph.D., are currently carried by 40 distributors in 18 states and U.S. territories, including recent distributor relationships in Texas and Puerto Rico.

Increased interest in health and wellness, spawned by the pandemic and the low- and noalcohol movement, and CERIA’s 0.0% ABV positioning, are credited with distributors’ interest and desire to take on the brand, according to Dr. Villa.

“Told repeatedly to wash their hands and to wear face masks to control the spread of Covid-19, consumers have become more conscious of their health, in many cases reducing or avoiding the consumption of alcohol. Adding to growing interest in NAs, particularly craft beers such as CERIA, are Facebook groups and new mobile smartphone apps developed over the past CERIA Distribution Network Doubles 2 year to help consumers consider non-alcohol refreshment and provide ‘better for you’ beverage solutions,” said Dr. Villa.

“YTD 2021 dollar sales of non-alcoholic beer are up 31.5%, according to market research firm IRI, and we anticipate that trend will continue through the summer, traditionally a strong time for craft beer consumption. This places NA beers in a prime position to compete against ready-to-drink teas, energy drinks and bottled water for hot weather refreshment.”

Says Terry Cekola, President, Elite Brands, Denver, “While alcoholic beer has long been America’s favorite adult beverage, it’s not always suitable for every occasion. Certainly not like bottled water, tea or coffee. But take out the alcohol while maintaining great beer taste, and you have the best of both worlds: a craft non-alcohol beer from CERIA’s legendary brewmaster that Elite Brands is proud to carry.”

Brendan Dalton, General Manager of Kramer Beverage, Hammonton, N.J., says, “The NA category growth will continue as innovative, differentiated products enter the category. Keith’s track record of success excited us about CERIA. CERIA’s taste will drive its success.”
